SECTION II: LIVE ALBUMS
Introduction
Whilst compiling this chart I discovered that almost all of my favourite artists had recorded superb live albums and amongst the live collections were superior and often extended versions of their best songs as they were able to embellish their studio counterparts.
I read recently that the only reason a band would record a live album was to act as a kind of memento for fans who attended the recorded concert. How wrong can you be! Most of the bands who come under the “rock” banner produced some of their finest material when recorded in concert. Not many current bands seem to do so these days apart from those in the rock genre. It seems to be a seventies phenomenon where the musicians involved could show their fans they could play – not in a pretentious way (although some drum solos don’t bear too many repeated listens) but more as proof that they could do so.
Are You Ready To Raaaawwwwwwkkkk!???
